On Friday, October 6, 2023, Linthicum Walks hosted one in a series of campfire chats coordinated by the Anne Arundel County Park Rangers. Folks were welcomed to the campfire by Ranger Nick Shearman. He introduced the speaker for the night, a 1700's historian (board of Directors member Don Bailey) who talked about the history of the Linthicum Walks family. While there are many descendants in the Linthicum family, those that lived in the house over the years (1780-1907) and Congressman John Charles Linthicum were chosen to be talked about. Great stories about these folks were shared. One of the many things the Congressman did while in office for 11 terms was to to propose legislation that took 12 years to pass that made The Star Spangled Banner our National Anthem. Attendees were given American flags and stood for the playing of the National Anthem by guitarist, Jim Gregory. The group then roasted marshmallows for s'mores. Children were given bubble wands that added to the fun of the night. Sharing history around the campfire made for a fantastic night.
